Mothers' Day Ideas & How To Celebrate
Mothers’ Day is Sunday, May 14th this year… it’s right around the corner! Finding a great gift for mothers’ day can be a bit difficult, especially when you’re working on a budget. I have two Mom’s to plan for – my mom and Katie. I took Katie out to Stone Tower Winery this past weekend for an early mother's day outing, but I still need to help Braylee put something together for her :)

For those of you with kids – there’s a bunch of options that are both fun and budget friendly. Below are a few ideas on what Mom’s can enjoy as gifts or ways to celebrate the important Mothers in your life:
Flowers – small and simple
An easy book to read – something romantic or family-oriented, anything entertaining or captivating for Mom to read. A mothers work day never ends and rarely do they get a break for themselves, a good book gives them the opportunity to unwind and take in a relaxing moment
Heartfelt note or letter – this is a perfect time to explain how much you admire her, why you love her, and how she makes your life better just by being in it
Prepare a meal, or better yet – go out for a picnic, enjoy the weather with some of her favorite foods (and special beverages)
Plan a trip to the winery – this can include the children or it can be a strictly parent date

Create a book of chore coupons – putting away dishes, cleaning the basement, help with yard work, a night in with mom to watch a movie, you can make a coupon for almost anything (just remember it’s for Mom, not you!)
Charm bracelet or practical necklace – when I was in elementary school I picked out a charm bracelet to include mine & my siblings birthstones. To this day my Mom still wears it and comments on how special it is to her.
Spa Day certificate
A special experience together – have a night out in DC, purchase tickets for a concert at Wolf Trap or a show/play at the Kennedy Center, it doesn't have to be expensive just quality time spent together
Amazon Echo/Dot – for those technology loving Mom’s this may be the perfect gift. Alexa (the Echo/Dot) is a great personal assistant; she adds items to your shopping lists, saves reminders, sets timers, turns on/off lights, plays music, and answers questions.

The end goal of celebrating Mothers’ Day is to show the Moms in your life how much they mean to you and the significance of them being a part of your life. I don’t think I need to note that all women are different and what may work for one, doesn’t always work for another. Remember—it’s not the price of the gift, but the thought that goes into that gift. There are a ton of options when it comes to celebrating, this is the opportunity to get creative. Creating something with your child or on your own proves to be more special time and time again.
