What's on Your Calendar? January 2018 Events & Snow Tubing Guide
This Winter has been painstakingly cold. I don't mind the typical frigid temps, but seriously....GIVE US SOME SNOW! That's all I'm asking if I'm forced into this state of being consistently frozen. Bray doesn't seem to mind the cold weather - we actually have to talk her out of wearing a tank top to school. I'll be honest... negotiating with other agents is much more enjoyable (and logical) than negotiating with a 4-year-old.

The Hastings Clan are indoor people in the winter months, but our energetic personalities don't mesh well with being barricaded indoor for weeks-on-end. Below are some events we have some interest in attending should we feel like making the trek outdoors:
January 13: Annual Winter Ice Festival and Mega Block Ice Carving Competition at The Village at Leesburg; 1-5pm, 1602 Village Market Boulevard in Leesburg
January 19: Smurf's Lost Village with Sherwood Family Movie Night at the Sherwood Center;7pm, 3740 Old Lee Highway in Fairfax
January 27-28: Monster Jam at Capital One Arena; 601 F Street NW in Washington D.C.
February 3-4: PAW Patrol Live! The Great Pirate Adventure at Eagle Bank Arena (George Mason campus); 4500 Patriot Circle in Fairfax

Winter can be unbearable and this winter has been no joke; we don't want to be stuck out in the cold all day and we're itching to get out of the house. Last winter I was able to make my way out to Jackson Hole in Wyoming for a week and the year before that I made the trek out to Colorado (check out these views). The hills here won't ever come close to the winter experience of the mid-west. It may not compare, but I decided to check out some local resorts for good deals and make some availability in our calendar (impossible task). I recommend checking Groupon for local deals, but also the resort websites for pricing. I came across the 4th & 5th Grade Snow Pass for select Pennsylvania resorts. The promotion offers free skiing and snowboarding/lift tickets to 4th and 5th graders for the winter season. Look into the resorts offering accepting this pass and the fine-print by clicking here.
Snow Tubing A great alternative for those with scheduling conflicts, tubing is an enjoyable winter sport for all ages minus the hassle of learning how to ski or snowboard. No need to bother with renting equipment, taking wipe outs, or going down the wrong trail. Northern Virginia is an excellent location since we can get to a majority of local resorts within an hour or two. There are dozens of winter resorts along the Eastern Seaboard, below are a select few that come highly recommended:
Liberty Mountain Resort - Pennsylvania
Whitetail Resort - Pennsylvania
Bryce Resort - Virginia
AvalancheXpress - Pennsylvania
Roundtop Mountain Resort - Pennsylvania
Massanutten Resort - Virginia
Wintergreen Resort - Virginia
Wisp Resort - Maryland
Blue Knob Resort - Pennsylvania
Canaan Valley Resort - West Virginia
Seven Springs Mountain Resort - Pennsylvania
