Finding the Perfect Reception Venue in Loudoun County

Katie and I have been planning our wedding for the past six months. In those 6 months – we’ve decided on a venue three different times, decided on catering, revised our guest list 50 times or so, and spoken with countless people regarding where we can cut costs. I’m happy to say that our budget never changed, which is probably the only thing I’ll be able to say I did well once all is said & done! I’ll admit we didn’t go about planning the right way… we wanted to lock in a venue before we even made our guest list. We checked out the following venues: Oatlands Plantation, Birkby House, The National Conference Center, Belmont County Club, Hidden Creek Country Club, and even ventured over to Maryland for a few venues. The search was exhausting – venues started blending together and we didn’t find the right fit. I'm happy to say we have since confirmed our venue and guest list, ultimately deciding for a very small and intimate wedding. Photo Credit: CH Photography

The Grapevine

Katie had heard through the grapevine of a venue that was in the beginning stages of construction & renovations, but may fit what we were looking for. She received the contact information for the owners and immediately reached out (typical Katie). They were overhauling the grounds, undertaking renovations, making various improvements, and so much more Fleetwood Farm Winery; to say we were pleasantly surprised when we were invited for a private tour later that day is an understatement.

First Impression

This property had always stuck out to me; it could be the circa 1700s manor house, the gravel driveway, or maybe the way the home sat on the land - whatever it was, I have loved this property since my initial move to Ashburn. I was excited to finally get a peak inside. We ascended the private drive, where tall oak trees and open pasture that will soon be sewn with grape vines welcomed us. It felt as though we were pulling into a secluded estate nestled deep within horse country. It’s impossible to ignore the mature trees and charming grounds of the newest winery in Loudoun County.

The Owners

Have you ever met someone and knew they were going to succeed in whatever life would bring his/her way? That’s how it was when we met the owners of Fleetwood Farm. They welcomed us as if we were long-time family friends. They gave us a tour of the facilities and addressed their view of what they envisioned for the property. From the courtyard, to the gazebos, the slate patio to the reception areas, and the historical manor house – we felt the dedication and passion that was being poured into this project. They spoke of the property's history as though it were a family homestead passed on from previous generations. Our tour ended in the home’s main foyer with an hour-long discussion of our wedding plans, getting to know one another, and the history of this historical 1700s estate. Katie & I left that day thinking “If only we could have our wedding here!” and are excited to visit the winery once opened later this year.

When Will They Open?

Located at the corner of Evergreen Mills and Red Hill Road – Fleetwood Farm Winery is going to be a hit for residents of the Brambleton and Willowsford communities. They are set to open this spring. If you ever need a truly special venue to host private or corporate events, I highly recommend you speak with Fleetwood Farm Winery. Check out Fleetwood Farm Winery's website here.
